REPAIR FAQs
Q. If my window or door
panel is very old will you be able to match the missing glass?
A. Sadly, not all colours and textures of glass
are still manufactured. However, the range that does exist is still very
extensive and, in most cases we can successfully match and restore. In
very special cases we can make glass in our kiln to better match
'hard-to-get' original textures.
Q. Will the new lead used
look a lot different to that in other areas of the panel?
A. In short, yes - due to the fact that internally
and externally the lead oxidises at different rates. We strive with a
combination of selective polishing and blackening to match the existing
"colouration" of the lead 'cames' in your panel.
Q. Will the repaired panel
be watertight.
A. We completely re-putty any lead came pieces we
replace to ensure the integrity of the panel. If the existing putty is
aged and brittle we can remove and repair areas with fresh putty.
Q. Are Tiffany-style lamps
repairable?
A. Yes definitely. These are constructed with
copper foil instead of lead, but can be successfully restored to their
original glory. Glass matching can be challenging if the lamps were made
in China - but, in most cases a suitable replacement can be found.
Q. Can I fix a damaged panel
myself?
A. You could undertake a project like this in the
second term of your lessons - so, to learn more about our classes click
